Botanical Medicines

Botanical medicines, also known as herbs, have been used as long as humans have been here on earth.   Traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine have documented uses for more than 4,000 years. Naturopathic doctors are trained mostly in the eclectic use of herbs and may have additional training in TCM or Ayurvedic uses.

Botanical medicines can be used to help the body heal from most ailments and are an integral part of modern medicine. Many pharmaceuticals we use today originated from herbs. For example, aspirin is from an ingredient found in the white willow bark and Taxol, a powerful chemotherapeutic, originated from an ingredient found in the pacific yew tree.
